My Purpose (an addendum to my bio)

I hear from "churchgoers" all the time. They are excited to have me visit their meeting place, and its not because I'm someone great. I think its because I'm doing what I was called to do and because they just like having someone different to hear from on a Sunday morning. The regular band gets a break, the congregation hears a different voice and, if I've communicated my heart's cry correctly, everyone will leave reminded that the Church is not the brick and mortar building we enter and exit each week, but something we are.
I believe Christ is our head, but he has given all of us his voice. And that voice is heard through our various giftings. My specific calling happens to be one that relies on a church's doors being open to itinerant ministers. My purpose is to animate, revitalize, warn and lift up those who are my siblings in a Great Family. I do it through songs and stories. I'm a little unconventional at times. I intentionally avoid cliches and "Christianese." And people have told me they appreciate hearing the timeless, unchanging truth of the gospel through a fresh perspective.

2200 Miles

Hello everyone! Just wanted to pass along a link to my friend Chris Hennig's website. Chris played piano on the last 2 of my CD projects (2005's Love and the Like and 2008's Next Stop Willoughby). He has recently begun a 2200 mile hike heading north from the southern origin of the Appalachian Trail. The 6 month hike is being filmed for a documentary movie, and Chris is using his platform to promote his (and my) favorite charity, World Vision (see link at the bottom of this page). Check out the site, watch a short intro video (a la Demetri Martin), fill out some fun surveys, and stay updated on Chris's at www.2200miles.com.
